Why I Created Talks Before Baby

When I was expecting my first baby, I thought I had done everything right.

I read the magazines. I bought the equipment. I had the changing table, the little sleepers in several sizes, and everything I thought we would need. I learned about feeding, sleeping and caring for a newborn.

I had spent a lot of time preparing for the baby.

What I hadn't really prepared for was how my life would change once the baby arrived.

And I hadn't talked about those expectations with my partner.

We hadn't talked about how our roles might change, how we'd share responsibilities, what kind of help we'd want, or what each of us imagined those first months would actually be like.

So we ended up having those conversations during that first year — exhausted, adjusting to parenthood and caring for a newborn.

We weren't necessarily disagreeing about the baby. We were discovering expectations we'd never talked about.

That's why I created Talks Before Baby.

It's designed to help you uncover those expectations earlier — first for yourself, then with your partner.

It's not about finding the "right" answer or agreeing on everything. It's about understanding what each of you expects, where you're already aligned, where you may see things differently, and what might be worth talking about now.

I learned the value of these conversations by not having them soon enough.

My hope is that Talks Before Baby helps you have them earlier — before you're trying to figure it all out with a newborn in your arms.
